We’re proud to have officially launched our financial services department recently, and we thought it was about time you got to know our Mortgage and Protection Director, Mark Collender.
Where this department differs to other financial services is in its strategy of building long-term relationships. Mark can help you find a mortgage should you wish, but instead of focusing only on this one-off transaction, he’s also looking at your future as a whole to find the products that will provide you with the security you need going forward.
We understand circumstances can change, for better or for worse, and when they do, Mark will be on hand to guide you through the best products and solutions, giving you and your family peace of mind.
So who is Mark Collender, and how did he get into financial services?
I had been working as a sales office manager when I was made redundant in 1991. I was looking for something that still incorporated sales and found a position with Pearl Assurance, which started my career in financial services.
If you could share one piece of financial advice, what would it be?
Balance – what I mean by this is that it’s important that we live for today, whilst always ensuring we provide for our future as well. In other words, spend a little and save a little. I believe balance is extremely important and I always adopt this methodology when working with my clients, some of whom don’t expect me to encourage them to ‘spend a little’.
What do you love most about working for Alexander & Co?
A company’s culture is of great importance when choosing where to work. I want to ensure that my ethos of providing a quality client service is matched, that’s why Alexander & Co was the perfect fit. It’s great to work somewhere where people actually love what they do./p>
When did you start?
I joined Alexander & Co in May, and the response to date has been extremely positive.
What’s your favourite property TV programme?
We would like to own a property abroad one day, so my wife has a series link on A Place in the Sun. As well as getting to nosey around the properties, it’s the little tips they give about the buying process in each country that I find interesting.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
That is a very easy question for me, Portugal. I love the weather, obviously, and it also has fantastic golf courses and lovely people. We always feel very at home when we visit.
What is your second love? Next to mortgages and property of course.
I think I hinted at this above, I love golf. I’m extremely proud to be Captain of the Woburn Golf Club this year. I play golf most weekends and have a handicap of 11.
