Steeped in history
First attested in the Doomsday book in 1086, Brackley has vast amounts of history. Having been named as one of five official sites for jousting by Richard the Lionheart in in the 12th Century, and played host to a market since 1218 (which still takes place outside the Town Hall every Friday), Brackley has a vast history, which brings a certain charm to this aesthetic town. Today, Brackley is also home to the Mercedes AMG Petronus Formula 1 team.
Brackley is home to plenty of sports clubs – including squash, tennis, cricket, martial arts and badminton – as well as Brackley Town Football Club and Brackley Rugby Union Football Club. There is also a fabulous traditional Morris dancing group, the Brackley Morris Men, plus a superb antiques seller.
The town has plenty of green spaces, including the beautiful St James Lake and Brackley Park. Nearby is Silverstone, home of Formula 1 racing, and is close to beautiful villages including Turweston, Evenley and Farthinghoe.
